Can Negre, an old 17th-century farmhouse, was extensively renovated by Josep Maria Jujol to adapt it to the summer residence of its owner, Pere Negre.<\/span><\/span> The undulating shapes, religious symbols and strident colours suggest the rich inner world of the architect.<\/span><\/span> Another of the emblematic houses of the town is the so-called Torre dels ous (Tower of Eggs) by the people of Sant Joan.<\/span><\/span> The officially called Torre de la Creu (Tower of the Cross) is made up of a total of five cylinders of different sizes and heights that make up the perimeter of this summer house.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The architect, Jujol, maintained a strong friendship and affinity with the people of the town, becoming the municipal architect for the last twenty years of his life.<\/p>\n

From the Jujol \u2013 Can Negre Center, the Jujol Itinerary is carried out, where you can visit these two magnificent modernist houses with a guide, including other elements of Jujol’s “experiment”, such as Torre Jujol, Casa Rovira or Casa Serra<\/span><\/span> -Xaus.<\/span><\/span> We will also be able to see some interventions in the Parish Church of Sant Joan Baptista and other details within this guided route through the modernist choir of Sant Joan Desp\u00ed.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Since 2010, the Jujol \u2013 Can Negre Centre has housed the Municipal School of Art, where classes in different artistic disciplines are taught.<\/span><\/span> As an artistic and cultural point in the city, the Jujol \u2013 Can Negre Centre offers other activities, routes and exhibitions such as, for example, the Cultural Walk through the historic farmhouses of Sant Joan Desp\u00ed, the Cultural Walk along the banks of the Llobregat River, the<\/span><\/span> family workshops \u201cThe Magic of Trencad\u00eds\u201d, or \u201cThe Detectives and the Hidden Well\u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Museum has a module called “La Mirada T\u00e0ctil”, an initiative of the Network of Local Museums and the Barcelona Provincial Council. It is a tactile interpretation space aimed at the general public, but specially adapted and designed for visitors who have some types of visual difficulty, with information in Braille. Different QR codes are also offered in the visitable spaces with expanded information in sign language. <\/sup><\/p>\n

Josep Maria Jujol, known for having collaborated on Antoni Gaud\u00ed’s most emblematic works, established his “architectural testing laboratory” in the municipality of Sant Joan Desp\u00ed. Through this experimentation with the rural architecture of the town, we can see the most suggestive works of the architect.<\/p>\n
