Dis Berlin (Ciria, 1959) is best known for his figurative approaches, situated squarely in the metaphysical poetics. However, the possibilities offered by abstraction, geometry as a generator of mental spaces, kaleidoscopic visual effects or connections with a cosmic reality, have been explored by him since the beginning of his career. This exhibition is a great opportunity to admire this “other” production of Dis Berlin. The show is made up of a selection of works, many of which are unpublished and others little known, which invite us to reflect on the paths of abstraction and the concept of infinite metamorphosis.
What would happen if we gathered Jujol and Dis Berlin around a table to have a glass of ratafia and chat? The result would be something very similar to this exhibition. Form and its constant and unlimited transmutation are the common thread on which to reflect and explore paths in which freedom, the power of intuition and, on occasion, automatism, govern the creative act. Like Jujol, Dis Berlin is an architect of forms. Like the modernist craftsman, the painter superimposes line, undulation and color – sometimes also collage – in the construction of spaces and objects. This a priori surprising and, undoubtedly, fortuitous affinity with Jujol’s formal and creative universe, invites us to construct a new look at Dis Berlin’s production, perhaps a freer and more personal Dis Berlin.
