In Sant Joan Despí, we find a wide variety of sculptures, monuments and murals that, beyond their aesthetic value, have a deep historical and cultural significance. Some of these elements were designed to remember important people or events, while others have a decorative character, designed to beautify squares and streets of the municipality.
Many of the works have been created with the intention of lasting over time, as is the case with sculptures and monuments, which remain as witnesses to local history. On the other hand, murals often have an ephemeral nature, as they are artistic creations that can disappear in a few years, giving rise to a unique and temporary experience.
This combination of permanent and ephemeral art makes the public space of Sant Joan Despí a true open-air museum, where art merges with the daily lives of residents and visitors.
This activity is part of the Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture program, a distinction from UNESCO and the International Union of Architects (UIA) to the city that hosts the UIA World Congress of Architects, and turns it into a global forum for architecture, urban planning and landscaping. From February 12 to December 13, a multidisciplinary program will be carried out in collaboration with schools, universities and professional and cultural entities throughout Catalonia. Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture has the support of the Barcelona City Council, the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda.
